Winemakers of Rutherglen Ahoy!

Our wines WOW at Sydney’s Wine Island

On Friday 18th March through to Sunday 20th March, Winemakers of Rutherglen joined a host of premium beer, wine and spirits brands at Wine Island Sydney – an amazing three-day food and wine festival on Clark Island in the middle of Sydney Harbour.

The weather held out – for the most part at least – with close to 5,000 food and wine lovers from across Sydney and beyond discovering just what Rutherglen has to offer. For many attendees this was their first time sipping, slurping and swilling wines from our region, and from the resultant wow’s and yum’s we certainly made an impression.

Showcasing the best of Rutherglen saw us take a huge presence at the festival with two stands with two distinct themes. Firstly Muscat.

Muscat of Rutherglen is a world-recognised and critically acclaimed wine style unique to Rutherglen, with a proud history spanning over 100 years of family winemaking. It’s a rich, sophisticated, sensory, and mystical drinking experience that truly reflects the layers of expertise and time that has gone into the production of every drop.

Muscat of Rutherglen is often said to sit between a wine and a spirit, which gives the style its greatest strength: versatility. And showcase this versatility we did, serving up two delicious Muscat based cocktails, Muscat on the rocks and even a Rare Muscat infused Gin.

Our second theme was centred on The New Wave – a selection of on trend, emerging and less well-known varieties to highlight the modern, innovative and forward thinking mindset of Rutherglen and our wineries. Alvarinho, Arinto, Viognier Marsanne Roussanne, Touriga Nacional, Gamay, Tempranillo and Grenache anyone?

And finally a huge congratulations to S Deeran from Sydney, winner of our luxury weekend escape to Rutherglen competition that was held over the three-days of the festival. We hope you enjoy discovering the best of what Rutherglen has to offer and can’t wait to welcome you!
