The results of the Rutherglen Wine Show and the Australian Fortified Wine Show are in!
Our esteemed panel of judges sipped, swirled and sniffed their way through over 1,000 wines from 151 wineries. Quite some tasting!
And there were highlights galore for our Rutherglen wineries.
From Jen Pfeiffer’s 2021 Rock It Like A Redhead The Diamond Shiraz which took home the Best Dry Red Table Wine of Show to the Pfeiffer 2019 Durif being awarded Best Barrel Matured Table Wine there was no shortage of wins for the region.
Just for good measure De Bortoli’s Rutherglen Estate 2021 Origins White scooped a number of awards including Best Australian Dry White Table Wine and Best Dry White Table Wine made with fruit grown in the Rutherglen region of Victoria. Quite the recognition!
Over at the Australian Fortified Wine Show the gong for Best Australian Fortified Muscat was awarded to Campbells Wines NV Rare Rutherglen Muscat with the Best Australian Fortified Topaque Muscadelle award going to Morris Wines NV Old Premium Topaque.
Pfeiffer NV Seriously Nutty, Pfeiffer 2018 Christopher’s VP and Pfeiffer NV Classic Rutherglen Tawny all took home major awards whilst Chambers Rosewood NV Old Vine Muscadelle was bestowed Best Australian Fortified Topaque Muscadelle.
Morris Wines NV Old Premium Topaque and Morris Wines NV Classic Muscat were also highly rated, awarded a number of trophies.
Commenting on the awards, Chris Pfeiffer, Partner in Pfeiffer Wines and Chairman of the Wine Show Committee said ‘The show highlighted the challenges coming from the 2020 vintage, with few entries received from this vintage.
A highlight of the Rutherglen Wine Show was the strength of the Shiraz classes, with a variety of styles rewarded. Our judging panel was thrilled by the quality of all exhibits in the Australian Fortified Wine Show and lament the shrinking number of exhibits, which is reflective of less winemakers making these styles.’
